The “As If” principle

Why do actors who may have no experience as a particular character give an Oscar winning performance? The simple answer, they act as if they were that character. They start to develop the characteristics and nuances over many weeks or months to finally become that character. It is not an easy process but if you want to be an award winning actor, it needs to be done.

What can speakers learn from this? If you are an inexperienced speaker act “As If” you are a powerful, motivating speaker. Will it be hard at first? Yes, however if you want to become that speaker, you need to start the process first. Spend time researching and watching different speaker styles through video snippets on the internet. Look to see what elements of style you can adapt to become part of you.

To become a great speaker, you need to act “As If” you are a great speaker!
